Landscaping Lucan

Case Study: Garden Lucan

We were given a proposal to overhaul a terraced house in Lucan where the existing garden was inadequate for the owners. The problems identified were the lack of paving for eating outside, lights that weren’t working and the lawn area where the dog was bringing dirt into the house.

We overcame these problems by extending the patio area to fit a table, chairs barbeque etc. for the summer evenings and installing an artificial lawn instead of the old turf lawn. The lights were rewired and a small raised bed was incorporated to the right hand side of the garden. Continue reading

Landscaping Blackrock

Last week on Gardens Now we completed a makeover on a garden in Blackrock. There was a new extension built and the garden was left in disrepair which is generally the case after the builders are done.

There was a long utility to the left of the back garden which the owner wasn’t keen on and they expressed the need for a larger storage area. We overcame this by constructing a timber screen to partially disguise the utility. Continue reading

Landscaping Lucan

This week in Gardens Now we designed and constructed a contemporary style garden for modern day use taking into consideration play areas for young children. We began by removing the old shed and clearing the site back to a blank canvass leaving only the raised decking. Take a look at the video below for the job from start to finish.

We then gave the surrounding walls two base coats of paint in preparation for the final colour (cream). Continue reading

Sandymount Garden

We were working out in Sandymount last week to revamp a back garden. The reason for this was to make it more child friendly (increase the grass area) and practical for general usage (cobble paving leading to patio areas and around the garden).

We began with the usual tear out of old materials with the help of the narrow access digger which was brought through the house. Without the aid of this the job would have taken a considerable amount of time. We used some of the existing hardcore from the old gravel path as the sub-base for our new cobble path. This save on waste for skips, buying new hardcore and ultimately saves you money. Continue reading

Bath Pub Ballsbridge

In February we were asked to overhaul a pub “courtyard” that was undergoing a revamp. The pub itself was being remodelled and one of the unique points that identified it from other pubs in the area was the potential for a beer garden. This wasn’t any beer garden though, it was also one that was south facing which makes people enjoy them few pints that bit more! It was also the only pub with a sizeable area for a beer garden in the area therefore somewhat of a niche factor for the pub.

The pub is based on Bath Avenue, Ballsbridge and was formally called Murrays. The people that were taking it over made it aware to us that they were renaming it The Bath and wanted it to be somewhat quirky. With this in mind we went away to design a pub courtyard.

Our solution can be seen on the video above but il lead you through the events if you are interested! Continue reading

Mature Tree Planting

We were asked to plant large specimen trees on an existing residence.

The property was already fully landscaped so therefore a large excavator was impractical as it would have caused soil compaction and possibly caused damage to the established lawn. An existing mature hedge row enclosed by two fences made access to the planting area also impassable. Continue reading

Synthetic Grass – Castleknock

The main reason we were consulted on this job was due to large dog (Labrador) that kept destroying the garden! We were asked to come up with a solution and that was in the form of synthetic grass.

Gravel would have been gradually taken away with the dog waste. This added with the fact that the dog would dig up the garden would have been a short term solution to rejuvenating the garden. Continue reading

Kilsaran Lifestyle Display Garden

This week at Gardens Now we constructed a display garden for Kilsaran Lifestyle at the forefront of supplying landscape materials in Ireland. The garden was initially flat with a few steps so we decided to bring some character and life into it.

We initially started the deconstruction and removing the old paving materials off site to peel the landscape back to it bare minimum. Continue reading
